On August 22, CHN Energy Huanghua Port unveiled its zero-carbon terminal construction plan, marking the official commencement of zero-carbon terminal construction in Huanghua Port's coal port area. This move signifies a shift from green and low-carbon operations towards an ecological and zero-carbon future. Notably, this is the first zero-carbon pilot project for a coal terminal in China.

In June of this year, the Phase III zero-carbon terminal pilot project for Huanghua Port's coal port area was included in the inaugural batch of "Highway and Waterway Typical Transportation and Facility Zero-carbon Pilot Projects" by the Ministry of Transport. Seizing this opportunity, CHN Energy Huanghua Harbour Administration Corp. (Ltd.) proactively accelerates the implementation of its zero-carbon port construction plan. According to the plan, the Huanghua Port's coal port area aims to establish itself as a world-class zero-carbon ecological port. This overall objective focuses on seven key areas: enhancing energy utilization efficiency, electrifying port vehicles and vessels, transitioning to clean energy sources, ensuring zero-carbon capacity increments, fostering regional emission reduction collaborations, diversifying carbon sequestration and offset methods, and implementing smart, refined energy-saving and carbon reduction management systems. The plan outlines 27 pivotal projects across ten critical domains, including the application of energy-saving technologies for equipment and facilities, the optimization of handling processes, and the construction of smart grid systems and integrated "wind-solar-energy storage" systems. These initiatives aim to significantly improve the energy efficiency of equipment and facilities, green power supply capabilities, port handling efficiency, zero-carbon fuel supply capacity, carbon sequestration and negative emission capabilities, and smart energy management levels. By 2035, the coal port area strives to achieve world-leading energy utilization efficiency standards, with all port vehicles and vessels relying on clean energy. The plan also envisions a 100-megawatt "wind-solar-energy storage" green power system generating over 200 million kilowatt-hours of power annually. The ultimate goal is to achieve net-zero direct and indirect emissions after offset by carbon sinks and trading.

Looking further ahead, Huanghua Port's coal port area will vigorously promote the construction and use of shore power facilities, bolster zero-carbon fuel supply capabilities, and optimize port collection and distribution systems. The coal port area aims to establish itself as a national leading shore power utilization demonstration zone, create green shipping corridors for coal transportation, and develop eco-friendly highway collection and distribution channels. These efforts will elevate the clean development level of the entire "highway-port-shipping" industrial chain, with the port serving as a crucial hub for driving the green and low-carbon transformation of regional economy.
